craft hack!

So when I create my products, I do a lot of tiny detail work–intricate needlework, working with wire, manipulating really small objects, etc. Between that and my raging internet habit, I had started developing some pretty sick carpal tunnel. It was affecting my productivity and my husband listened to a lot of complaining…

A few months ago at a greenhouse, I bought these gloves thinking I would use them when I worked in the garden (of course I didn’t). And then one day I put them on to protect my hands while I twisted wire–I often poke myself and the twisting really hurts my joints (boo hoo, I know I know). But with these gloves, I couldn’t feel any discomfort at all. Twisting the wire felt like bending a pipe cleaner.

They are made by a company called Atlas, and they come in many different colors. Mine cost $4 at a local store, but you can buy them lots of places online. Such as here!

They fit so tightly–like a latex glove–that I can type with them on, pick out tiny sequins and buttons from a big jar, and do all kinds of other things that regular gloves usually inhibit. The palm and each finger is coated with rubber, and I’ve found that needles don’t go through it. So it works like a thimble too!

So I have to recommend them to some of my craft friends. Those of you who I have heard complain about sticking yourselves with pins….burning yourself with a glue gun…joint pain…I think these gloves might really help you. I love them so much.
