sabra’s birds

About a year ago when I was working on Kinder, planning my toy store (that is on hold for 2009 because of bridal commitments) Sabra asked me to make a set of birds to use as part of the centerpieces of her reception tables.

Sabra and her fiance are having a vintage, rustic farm wedding outside Baltimore. Pies, lemonade, a simple ivory lace dress…

…and centerpieces of mason jars, unfussy flowers, and happy little birdies.

I love making anything with a face because then it has a personality. I think most people like to recognize the familiarity of a face in things. And then of course gather lots of arbitrary information about the object because of how its face looks.

As soon as you add eyes, a beak, accessories…I see who they are. Is this bird happy? Is this bird bossy?

This bird is bossy.

(like me.)
