this week in pictures

What an awesome week! I could have done two photo posts because there is so much to mention.

I received a wonderful wonderful package from Meg Duerksen–the pillow I ordered from her Etsy shop! And all of the proceeds go to a great cause.

The pillow was a great deal and much bigger than I expected, and it’s washable! The box was a great treat for Turbo, too.

On Tuesday, we went to Whuffaoke, which is a big huge karaoke bus full of nice people that travels from city to city across the United States. There are tons of beautiful pictures from that fun, spontaneous night by photographers Malone & Co here.

I sang Spice Up Your Life by the Spice Girls with Ben, the intern for BrightMix. The photos and Whuffaoke website are definitely worth checking out.

So I wore these awesome shoes to Whuffaoke that I embellished myself.

They’re the “Hyper” boots by Steve Madden, and I added ruffles to the sides using silk chiffon. You can achieve the same effect to make some removable ruffles.

Cut strips of black silk chiffon measuring 1 yard x 4 inches and baste down the middle without backstitching. Then pull the ends of the thread to ruffle the fabric, tying the ends of the thread when you are satisfied to secure the ruffle. I attached tiny black bobby pins (available at beauty supply stores) to the back of the ruffle using hot glue, and just clipped them onto the sides of my shoes when they were dry. The huge ruffle hides the bobby pin!

I joined the Whuffaoke crew for breakfast on Wednesday morning along with Christian, owner of 22 Floors, Mark, founder of Twitter Road Trip, and Jeff Slobotski of Silicon Prairie News in Omaha. After our breakfast, everyone had to take video of each other for their respective websites…

I think I will make appearances on both Silicon Prairie and Twitter Road Trip in the next few days.

Lately, Dave and I have been walking half a block up the street with our cereal to Espresso Yourself, a little coffee shop in the mornings when I am up late. They have real fruit smoothies that look great with my new smoothie/coffee sleeve made by She Sews Lovely.

It’s made to keep your hand cool when holding coffee, but it works just as well to keep my hand warm when I’m holding a freezing smoothie cup in the summer!

And on Thursday, Dave brought me the best possible present…Mexican Coke!

Muy refresco. Nothing tastes better.

We also spent the weekend up at Lake Okoboji with my parents and grandparents. Let’s do a photo dump, hmmmmm?

xo
have a happy week
