omaha dundee days

Dundee is the neighborhood I live in in my dear sweet beloved city of Omaha, and every year we have a big festival called Dundee Days with activities for kids, booths from local artisans, bands, FOOD, tons of beer, a big parade, games…all that normal festival stuff.
Started the day early at 9am with the Pancake Man

Then we walked around through all the vendor booths and enjoyed the parade.
This my friend Amy Morin’s booth for her business, Plaiderpillar. Amy is by far my biggest design idol. Look at her little animals and monsters that she makes! Some of them are puppets, and many of them have balls in the middle of them, making them squishy or bouncy…her creativity is so astounding.
Anyway, she’s the bomb dot com.
With city budget shortages, there has been talk of closing many local libraries, and private donors are beginning to step up and donate money to keep them open. So the library issue is a very hot topic in town now.
I love our libraries!
Also it’s funny when someone comes up to me and says, “Your look is SO Anthropologie!” when pretty much everything I’m wearing is from there….
Sweater: Moth
Blouse: Odille
Jeans: Hydraulic
Boots: Target
Bag: BCBG
Necklace: Seriously?
Other stuff weighing on my mind this week…
…To do or not to do Boutique Night at Omaha Fashion Week this year? It’d be great to increase my exposure and brand recognition before I (hopefully) do the dresses in the runway show next year. The problem is, because pretty much everything I do is custom, I don’t keep an inventory and I’d have to make a ton of new things on my already full schedule. Is the stress worth the benefit? And there IS something to be said for “exploding” on the fashion scene rather than building up slowly to the big show.
…Nervous about my re-branding and impending new website launch…I hope my readers “get it” and accept the change. The website navigation will be a bit different, with a blog post at the top and past posts tiled beneath. It might take a bit of getting used to, but I think you will agree that it is an improvement.
…This week I am working on four custom birthday gifts…which is a fun departure from the usual bridal orders. I have gotten so used to it, but it is an objective fact that most brides are a bit more particular and detail-oriented than most other customers. So although I have just as much work, it’s much less stressful.
…Current home improvement project? Turning our third bedroom into a dressing room…today I bought a bunch of treats like industrial clothing racks, shelving for shoes, and a laundry sorter/ironing station. I also have a nice bench that I will cover with a soft faux fur blanket. I always think about how luxurious a dressing room/closet would be, and then I walk past my unused room every day. It’s not like I’m expecting guests, so what am I waiting for?
