jenny’s flower project

Posted on 20. Nov, 2009 by in bouquets

Several months ago I had lunch with my friend Jenny, who ordered a felt flower kit to make her own embroidered flower stems at home to keep in a vase on her desk. The other day, she sent me the results of what she had put together–I love these so much!

These are awesome. I love seeing what other people do with the kit.

Today I intend to wake up before 5pm for the first time this week and go to a few local antique shops. I hate hate hate my new studio in the new house, and the glum attitude I get when I work in there is affecting my productivity…so I want to try to find some inspiration and maybe get a few new things. I hate working in the basement. I hate the floors, the ceiling, the walls, the storm door that doesn’t close all the way. And I think it will smell like dog forever. Groce.

Ideally I’d really love to build a sunroom onto the front of the house, which would also block the view from the road and create some more privacy for the backyard. I visualize a bright, windowed room where I can see the kids playing in the backyard, and a door that opens onto a deck full of rocking chairs. Goals.

You need think about it. Despite the emails, the overwhelming evidence showing global warming is happening hasn’t changed.
“The e-mails do nothing to undermine the very strong scientific consensus . . . that tells us the Earth is warming, that warming is largely a result of human activity,” Jane Lubchenco, who heads the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, told a House committee. She said that the e-mails don’t cover data from NOAA and NASA, whose independent climate records show dramatic warming.

We (meaning I just helped on one part of the project) just finisnhed re-doing our dingy- has-not-been-touched for a lotta years-church basement. It looks gorgeous! Keep in mind, this basement has circa 1950 windows, cinder block walls and a floor that has been painted over too many time too count. Our resident decorater faux painted two walls and painted the other two in a nice contrast color. Even more important, she fixed the ugly cement floor with a lovely paint epoxy that looks like a completely different material. I just cannot believe the transformation of this DINGY basement!

    very cute…she has skillz.
you just need to find something perfect that inspires you and suddenly your whole studio will be a vision for you! you’ll find it and you will know just what you want.
    dog smell? yuck.
are the floors concrete? you could paint them….then surely the dog smell would be less.
    good luck antiquing!

Those look so good! I can’t believe how nice the plain, wood buttons work. I thought I would only like the flowers with the yummy sequin filled buttons, but the colors make the buttons and vice versa!

So sorry to hear about the studio! I’ve been working in my living room, which the husband is not a fan of, because the craft room fire place makes the room too chilly! Other than that, the room is awesome. No dog smell, That’s a dealbreaker!

Thanks Megan! I had so much fun creating it!!

You should hire me – I will work for felt flower headbands ;) haha!

have you painted your basement yet? we have a giant mirror as tall as me that used to be in the bathroom at our church – it makes our room seem even bigger (we’re in the basement too). we also have a couple of floor to ceiling ladder shelves that help cover up some of the big blank wall.

I had basement smell issues at one of my base houses we lived in. I found that putting some white vinegar in small dishes around the basement helped eliminate the smell. It might help you with your smells like dog issue :)

Put down some rugs that make you happy. Paint the walls a color you like (perhaps that bright sunny yellow of your last studio). Add artwork that makes you smile. It’ll get better :)

I just wanted to say again how happy I am that I’m not the only one awake right now.
