I love your idea of having a secret spot for your child! I will have to file that idea away for a later date...
We have a 1300 square foot home and it's been an absolute labor of love. Scanning Craigslist, Goodwill and estate sales (as well as some actual new purchases) has made our little house into our home. Not just grabbing the trend, but finding pieces that have a positive feeling about them.
The living room is the heart of our home and we spend most of our time in it, too.
I'm glad a friend of mine recommended your blog- nice way to start the day...

On an art note, I've been wanting to get a painting by Nolan Treadway recently. He's a Lincoln artist and had a display at Nomad last summer. Diggin' it.

Oh my god that is the best question ever. I'm putting it in my Facebook status and on Twitter.

I love the interior design styles that are 'in' right now, because I can combine my love of vintage with my love of Japanese-inspired decor, and my love of sparseness and clean lines AND my love of screaming bright colors. In any other era, these styles would not mesh, but right now, with the emphasis on upcycling and do-it-yourself and mish-mashing styles, I feel like it's within reach.

I want to preserve heirloom furniture and dishes from my family, so I think some re-covering of antique couches with bold, funky fabrics is going to happen. But also I want a quiet bedroom space with low-to-the-ground, Japanese-inspired furniture. Mainly because my boyfriend can't stand tall beds. He's a mattress-on-the-floor kind of guy.

And then of course we need to work in my Fiestaware collection. ^_^

My ideal nursery is this: http://sewliberated.typepad.com/sew_liberated/tutorials/. I love the montessori school of thought, and the way it is incorporated in this room amazes me. So beautiful. We have a twin bed mattress on the floor for our son and I can't wait to get back to Ikea to get some low shelving units for his toys.

For art: Have you ever attended the annual art auction at the Bemis? It is phenomenal. I've only been once (living in Texas makes it hard to do so...), but my brother attends annually and has quite a few amazing pieces from the auction. Info here: http://www.bemiscenterartsales.org/auction.cfm

Also--have you checked out Barcode Art? You can print them out on any inkjet printer, than piece them together. They are pretty amazing in person : ) http://www.barcodeart.com/artwork/portraits/index.html

I'm in absolutely no danger of owning a home anytime in the immediate future, however I've been keeping an Evernote file of home design inspiration for a few years (and before that it wasin a Google Notebook, so this goes back FOREVER in internet-time).

I'm obsessed with combining the antiques I grew up around with awesome mid-century furniture & decor and setting it all against really modern colors, clean lines, everything has a place, everything else is on display.

I could easily have a house that was all shades of brown & green and mix in interesting pottery & textiles for accent color, super colorful pop-surrealist art in simple frames, lots of textures, lots of elements (metal, glass, wood, plants) & massive amounts of storage.

It was a dream of mine as a kid to have a "secret hiding place" where I could draw & read (I had a little sister so my desire for alone time was a driving force in my childhood) so if I were moving into my potential forever home to start a family in I'd definitely try to carve out a space for my kid under the stairs or in a spare closet to turn into a sort of book nook/fortress that doesn't involve tearing my couches apart to assemble in the living room.

i would love to paint the walls - we live in an apartment with super high ceilings.

i would also love to take all the junk out of our second bedroom, have a place for it and make the bedroom a giant closet!

Can't wait to get started on everything. I love when I get to work with people who have such great style and want to take risks.

Loving that inspiration board in the pictures. Is that a painted square dedicated to awesome stuff?! Hmm, we may have to work something like that in somewhere.
