jeanelle’s flowers

Posted on 24. Jan, 2010 by Princess Lasertron in bouquets

Jeanelle is getting married this March in the snowy mountains of Canada. She and her fiance are having a dark evening ceremony with their closest friends and family present, lit by candles, a fire pit, and followed by hot chocolate!

What I love most about working with brides is learning about their wedding plans because they are all just awesome, fun parties. If you are ever looking for cool ideas for your next get-together, just look at weddings–the themes, the decor, the fun personal touches like Jeanelle’s hot chocolate and sunflowers…it’s the perfect inspiration.

Sometimes I feel like I don’t belong in the “Wedding Blogging” culture because I am not really “into” weddings. I often see it implied in articles and interviews that people who work in the wedding industry do so because they are wedding-obsessed, but that isn’t true. Growing up, I never longed for my white knight or visualized my perfect dress, and when it was finally my (our) turn to tie the knot, the event itself (although it was very fun!) was not the big deal. Weddings and marriage to me doesn’t represent a life goal–it is just a (optional) stop on the long exciting journey of our individual lives.

I think that more brides than the “mainstream wedding media” realizes share that view. It’s so normal now to not toss a garter, not worry about place cards, not have matching bridesmaids dresses–or maybe even any bridesmaids at all. And obviously the huge New York weddings we see on all the cable tv shows are not the norm. It is okay if you do all of those things, but I think that more brides and grooms are thinking hard about the meanings of traditions and evaluating whether or not they are meaningful to them as a couple, which is the most important thing!

I think Jeanelle and her fiance will have an unforgettably lovely wedding and I am so honored to be included in part of their special day.

Beautiful! I love the sunflowers, very unique. I’m impressed with your ability to evolve your designs to capture each bride’s desires. I’m sure it helps keep the process fresh and not as repetitive.
I have to admit though, I am one of “those” brides[-to-be-someday]. I’ve got a box of cut up wedding magazines under my desk, a binder full of all the ideas I like, and a section appropriately labeled, “If you bring this to my wedding you will be shunned for life” for things I don’t like. Lately I’ve enjoyed finding unique elements to bring to the table, like felt flowers, to separate myself from every other bride[-to-be-someday]. I want my wedding to be memorable, not just another ad for David’s Bridal.
I guess I should take some input from Mr. Shining-Armor, but until he comes riding up on his white horse, I’ll just take care of all the preliminary brainstorming ;)
Best of luck to Jeanelle & her fiancé. Gorgeous flowers.

That is nothing to hate to admit–it’s great and exciting! I have to tell you as a vendor that brides like you, the ones who know what they want, are easiest to work with. :)

Wow! How you described the setting for Jeanelle’s wedding and then photographed the flowers you made her just presented such a romantic feeling! I love the thread detail on the sunflowers and how each one is different from the other. You are magical in your abilities, I enjoy it very much when you post pictures of your bouquets (and also pictures of your outfits with your cute Alice belly!). Thanks for sharing!

I love the color pallet. The red and burgandy with the sunflowers is really beautiful. It is nice to see something other than pink and lavender for a spring wedding.

On an unrelated note, I saw this today at a blog I frequent. I couldn’t help passing it on to you! Here is a tutorial on how to make button shaped shortbread cookies!

Just lovely! I love your attention to detail and the amazing color palette. And I think today’s bride really cares about the “attention to detail” part of the wedding. Whether it be her gown, or her menu cards or flower choices, when it’s all said and done, she just wants pretty little things that are unique, charming and rare. And I can’t wait to get married so I can have you create something totally awesome and unique! (hopefully soon, haha)!

You hit the nail right on the head with the “it is just a (optional) stop.” I’m so excited to have a big party with all the family and friends I haven’t seen in years (I moved to NH from IN four years ago to be with my fiance). I originally got excited about thinking how everything will match and flow. I got to thinking about my groom (who has very little opinion) and now I’m getting more excited about his fun boutonnieres, hot wings, and his Tapout groom’s cake :) I can’t wait to see what your flowers have in store for me. Thank you for having your thumb on the pulse of the modern bride!
