Longing to visit my favorite city

Posted on 11. Feb, 2010 by in travel

Alternately titled, “Things I will show Alice when she is five or six.”

1, 2: Yoli Frozen Yogurt, the most beautiful treat store in Berlin that offers both a well-designed, mature ambiance and sweet fantastic indulgence.  3: Besuch der Fernsehturm am Alexanderplatz fur Kaffee und Kuchen. 4: Cupcake Berlin, the first cupcake store in the city. I love that it is owned by an American and that they have delicious vegan options. 5: The Ishtar Gate at the Pergamonmuseum. 6: Staatsoper Under den Linden. (Hast du Matineen fur Kinder?) 7: Die Reichstag, the center of the Deutscher Bundestag or federal government. I appreciate tradition and the beauty of our own federal buildings here in the states, but you can’t tell me you don’t envy the modern design of the chambers and the symbolism of the glass-bottomed dome! 8: Eine hubsche gelben Bus. 9: Eine schone Blume-formigen Eis.

Alright, last time I went to Europe for business with my Aunt and Uncle, we were gone for an entire month and hit up 8 countries. I was 10, and I kid you not, my cousin and I managed to eat ice cream every day – for 31 days.
This time, we’re just going to Germany (sadly, not Berlin) for two weeks and I am beyond excited!. This year I might sacrifice the daily ice cream in the name of waistline, but then again, I might not HAHA! It’s vacation, I better live it up :)

Any suggestions for sites to be seen outside of Berlin? We’ve got plans to see castles galore, but I am hoping to experience a little more of the actual culture, not just the tourist hot spots.

… and I love the idea of giving Alice the chance to remember. But you could as well stay a little longer so she could learn some german in kindergarten :-)

I love Berlin too, can’t wait to go back with my daughter as well. Did you make it KaDeWe? I loved the gourmet food level, spent a good amount of time and money there!

Love that you love Berlin. Also love that you are already planning holidays for your little one! Liebe Grüße! (nicht aus Berlin, sondern aus Oberhausen)

I am longing to take a long trip. I haven’t been anywhere that wasn’t for a wedding or to see someone’s new baby in years! I am poor, thanks student loans, so I don’t see a trip anytime in my near future. I haven’t left the country yet but Berlin looks AMAZING!

Why wait until she is 5 or 6?? Why not take her when she is 3 and still free everywhere. :) My oldest was 9 months old when we were first stationed in Germany and we took him all over the place. He may not have remembered it, but we did.
