today’s outfit and week 40

Thanks everyone for your sweet feedback on my last post. It felt good to get that out there and it feels great to think of the love that’s coming this baby’s way! I am feeling more and more like she’ll be here on Mother’s Day (my birthday) this Sunday.

I really didn’t want her to be born then–I’m a little possessive of that day. The whole month, actually (I do celebrate a “birthday month”). But as my mom always reminds me, “‘YOUR’ days are OVER.” While laughing maniacally.

Yesterday, my friend Eric and I went to Jones Bros Cupcakes, the newest bakery in town. They did a hush-hush soft opening on Saturday and sold over 2,000 cupcakes!

My initial impressions were extremely positive–Jones Bros has that beautiful stark, minimalist architecture that I love so much, and they also used some of my favorite typefaces (Neutraface, Archer, and something that looks like Hand Writing Multu) in their branding. No detail was spared–the scalloped circle imagery was found on top of each cupcake, on all of the signage and paper products, and even the coffee stirrers and tabletops (which were obviously custom-cut).

I ordered cinnamon sugar, red velvet, chocolate, and carrot cupcakes and they were given to me in an adorable box. I also had a hot chocolate that came with a delicious, generously sized homemade marshmallow. The details!!

Eric and I were grateful to sit down with two of the Jones brothers themselves and talk to them about their branding and buildout process (since we are going through that right now with CAMP), and they also shared some wisdom about the bumps and setbacks they hit along the way. I was more surprised to learn that this is the Jones brothers’ first venture in the food industry, considering how well-thought-out the whole experience was.

I’m excited to go back to Jones Bros Cupcakes and try more from their menu. I can also see it being a great meeting place throughout the year as we plan events and parties!

You look great and so do the cupcakes!
(PS: I was born on my dad’s birthday, and while he didn’t get his birthday back until I went to college, it’s always been extra awesome and special. Really, it’s the best.)

Wow, you are the tiniest (and happiest-looking!) 40-weeks-pregnant woman I have ever seen…and I have 4 sisters.
Do you know where the black iron railing on your house is from (second photo)? It looks like it’s floating, which is what I’ve been looking for to put on my front stairs.

Congrats on still looking super chic this far along in your pregnancy! I am constantly amazed at how everything you wear looks so put together. I WISH I could do that!
I have been anxiously awaiting the opening of the Jones Bros. Cupcakes since I drive by there on my way to UNO everyday. I stopped with a couple of friends on Monday to check it out. I have to say, I was also really impressed by all the little details and the amazing design. Unfortunately, I wished they had taken more time perfecting their recipes. My cupcakes were really dry and had little flavor. My friend didn’t like them either. I look forward to trying their soups and sandwiches which sound delicious but was really disappointed in their signature cupcakes.
Can’t wait to see little Alice!

i’m the same way about my birthday! in my family may 16th is a big day, it’s my oldest brothers birthday, my parents wedding anniversary, and my other brothers wedding anniversary. i don’t think my mom minded sharing with my brother. i do know my mom almost barfed giving birth to him though because my dad made her eat their saved wedding cake!

Turbo made me laugh out loud. I didn’t notice him the first time but he is a silly kitty!
I love cupcakes. I love new cupcake stores more, especially when they make such yummy looking treats!

I’m in the same boat as you… wishing for a Mother’s Day babe. I’m due on Sunday actually. But my lil Delilah will probably be late (with my track record).
Isn’t finding a new coffee/bakery hang out just the best feeling!? I always get VERY excited when I can find a new local place that is worth ‘blogging about’. Jones Bros. looks like a great place, and it makes me want a cupcake so bad!! They’re branding is very simple and effective, I love it!
Thanks for sharing,
xo holly
ps: oh, and I have to comment how GREAT you look!! Your bump is adorable, and I would have never guessed you to be at 40 weeks already. Good luck! (and happy early birthday!!)

Hi there, I’m a blog lurker – love, love, love your craft, your attitude – and your fashion sense! I just wanted to let you know that my daughter was born on my birthday almost 14 years ago. It is more common than you would imagine – even more so to have a daughter within a few days of your own birthday (mysterious that it tends to be with girls rather than boys).
She is still the best present that I could have had. Sure, we have to get up extra early to open two sets of cards and presents before school (she is the youngest of three). Sure, sometimes organising a party for her when she was small was exhausting. But the way that she has always wanted to make sure that MY birthday is celebrated too just fills my heart with pride and love.
So if it happens – enjoy!
