on my craft table

Posted on 16. Jun, 2010 by in craft

I’ve never ever in my life been a tidy person.

Lately I’ve just been putting off cleaning because I’m preparing to move it all into CAMP. Where I’ll have to keep things neat.

Like many other crafty types–probably including you–I hoard supplies. I have a whole box of little metal tags from some equipment at Dave’s office that was going to be thrown away. Boxes and boxes of empty vintage button cards. Scraps of almost-discarded, misshapen, miscut felt. Spools. Jars and bottles. “Wait! I can make something from that!”

Most of my other friends, the other CAMP tenants, have nothing but a laptop. I just can’t picture there being enough room for all my STUFF!

Ahh girl after my own heart. My room is my work area as well and I’m frever rooting through the threads and bits everywhere. Boxes all over my room and outside on the landing stored full of things that no one else thinks I can us but I know I will. I’m just as bad in my little space at college!

Though there is nothing more satisfying than using something you’ve had stored away and being able to tell people what it was made from.

Love that pile of wool felt. It makes me happy to know it is in such a good home on its way to becoming something grand.

I love it! My craft area is kind of the same way. I started organizing my stuff more and purged some of the stuff I didn’t think I’d use (like uh old scrapbooking supplies). It freed up space for stuff I actually use.

I also did a 30 day creating challenge and used only things from my stash. It helped deplete my stash and made me realize what I would and wouldn’t use in a project. Yes you *can* make something from the doodads you’re keeping… but will you?

I’m with Stacy! I’m a total neat freak and that makes me want to rush over, organize, and say “See doesn’t that look better?” Knowing full well that it would totally mess with your “system.” :)

I feel ya! My room is always a disaster. My husband is scared because every time we watch “Hoarders” there is at least one crafter becomes crazy hoarder… It is a mild addiction, but I love it!

Haha! This is so much like my desk, apart from the fact that mine is also full of psychology books and bits of paper as well as all the crafty paraphernalia!

I also believe that disorganization is a characteristic of those with a creative and brilliant mind!

I totally relate. Especially to the “I can make something with that” part. I’ve always been crafty and I adore experimenting on different media, but now I hardly have enough time to do so. Oh.. and I’m also not a neat/organized person AT ALL. I excuse myself to my boyfriend all the time by saying that it’s a common trait to all creative people ;)

Hi:) So happy to see that someone has a craft area as bad as mine. You are lucky to have so many ‘supplies.’ I would definitely love to hoard that much stuff. Good luck with CAMP. :)
