the princess lasertron dress line: how we did the shoes
Posted on 27. Sep, 2010 by Princess Lasertron in craft, dresses
I was a little surprised (but I shouldn’t have been) that you’ve all had as much of a reaction to the shoes we created as the dresses themselves!
1. We thought the whole runway show more memorable not only if each model not only had the same shoe, but if we went a step further and customized each pair for each look.
2. I ordered them online from Forever 21. The style went out of stock the next day.

3. When we received them, they were black with white polka dots (super cute on their own)! Shannon and I spray painted them with satin-finish spray paint–each shoe got about 6-7 very light coats. We used Krylon shades of avocado green, bauhaus yellow, ballet slipper pink, and Rustoleum harbor blue. Then we gave each pair a coat of glossy clear spray enamel. We used floral tape to cover the metal buckles when we painted them.

I got the idea to do it this way because I used to buy shoes at the thrift store and paint/embellish them for prom and homecoming when I was in high school. I had a gold pair of vintage pumps with hot pink polka dots, hot pink peep-toes with black polka dots and bows…clearly I’m into polka dots.

4. We hand-painted each pair. Some I taped off lines and made stripes, some we did polka dots. Some we left more plain and added satin bows or silk posie flowers. The effect was awesome!

5. I’m not sure if I’m going to sell them yet. I can’t make more really because the style is out of stock–and I’m not in the shoe-embellishment business anyway. I’m thinking about eBaying the ones I already made. Most of them are size 8, and there are a few size 7, 9, and 10s. I’d love to make some complimentary custom pairs to those who order a dress.
Anyway I encourage you to try this yourself! xo

After much sneaky Googling to try and find who supplied the shoes for your shoot, now I know the answer! These are heavenly. My darling boyfriend thinks I should give it a try for my wedding shoes. Yay!

oh wow. thank you. i have been on the hunt for good shoes to go with my dress and have come up empty handed after hours and hours of scouring the internet for something that will work – not for a lack of shoes i LIKE… i’m totally going to do this.

I’m SO glad you posted this! I don’t have much money to spend on shoes so I’m always stuck with very sensible ones- I’m definitely going to start hitting up some thrifty places to get boring shoes and jazz them up with these tips.
Let us know what you plan to do with them- I would ADORE a pair of the size 9s. : )

I really want to try this. My friends and I have a theatre company and last year the guys dressed up all smart for the first and last nights but I was upstairs controling the cast and never dressed up. Would love to do some shoes that were decorated to the theme of our show and be able to dress up this time.
What kind of paint is the Krylan? That brand is really hard to buy in the UK.

Krylon is just a brand…it’s just normal spray paint. I’m sure there’s nothing different between that and the paint you can get in the UK!

Yep, I would bid on them on Ebay – so fun! Though I might try and do something similar on my own, but these were really amazing.

I would love a pair in size 7, please. The shoes almost stole the show, Megan! They were so awesome. Definitely made your collection the most stand-out out of all the other “designers” because you put thought into it from head to toe. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing your long awaited collection from waiting all those months ago when you first tweeted about it.
