some of my favorite things around my studio

1. My Shinzi Katoh pens

Shinzi Katoh is my favorite illustrator and his mission is to make people happy and bring joy to their lives. We have several of his prints in our home, Alice’s diaper bag is one from his line, and I use his ballpoint pens to write checks. They are so happy. You should check out his work.

2. Marigold perfume from Royal Apothic

On top of my desk, I have a little box of personal effects that I dig through whenever I have a surprise meeting or I find out someone cool is coming to visit. Bobby pins, a comb, lotion, a few pairs of earrings and necklaces, sunglasses, and this perfectly-sized tube of roll-on perfume from Royal Apothic. I did a post recently about how much I love this scent. It’s so fresh and simple.

3. Stabilo pens

I bought my first set in Germany and now they are the only pens I use.

4. Our new ruffled boutonniere pins

My girls and I figured out the easiest ruffling technique (and we’re teaching it at The Creative Connection) for all of these new boutonniere orders we have. I like how gender-neutral they can be.

5. Stacks of vintage button cards

Because we are always getting new buttons and go through them so quickly, we have more button cards than we know what to do with. We like to use them to write little notes on before we package up an order, and they are easy to alter to make price tags for sales. A lot of scrapbookers order them too for their projects. My favorite ones are the ones from Germany that are written in German–I keep them all on my bulletin board.

6. Polka dot headbands

These are my favorite gift to give right now. They are easy to make and look cute tied with a ribbon on top of a package. We made a whole bunch of them for my employee Emma Erickson’s fashion show a few months ago.

7. Fabri-Tac adhesive from Beacon

I’ve talked about Fabri-Tac a million times in this blog and whenever anyone asks me what glue they should be using. Although our bouquets are all hand-stitched, they are usually reinforced with Fabri-Tac. I also love that they are active on Twitter to answer questions about their products!

8. This freaking orange creamsicle-smelling candle

Sometimes people from the other businesses in our building drift into CAMP searching for the source of “that sherbet smell.” It’s this candle. And the matches are pretty cute too.

9. New books all the time

Our felt notebooks, a few business books that don’t fit on our library shelf, and all of Alice’s little storybooks are on this little vintage LP shelf. I get a lot done while she pulls them all off every day. Two of the books that we always have at CAMP for checkout are Chris Guillebeau’s Art of Nonconformity and Jenny Doh’s Signature Styles that I was featured in.

10. Hollywood Fashion Tape

As the weather gets hotter, meetings across town become more frequent, and all the while hemlines are rising and necklines are plunging. I am fashion taping it up quite a bit. We keep ours in a big shoebox full of fashion show emergency supplies–safety pins, hair clips, extra flowers, pens and paper, clear nail polish, a small sewing kit…We couldn’t work without any of it.

And a happy baby.

I’m not usually a headband girl, but those polka dot ones are changing my mind.
