giveaway week: beauty
Posted on 28. Jun, 2011 by Princess Lasertron in giveaway

It’s giveaway week and each day has a different theme. Today’s prize will be a package with few of my favorite beauty products, beautiful things, things that are beautiful to look at. Maybe my favorite lipstick? Maybe perfume? Maybe a tiny painting? Comment below to enter and win!
Five times I felt beautiful and confident:
1. At my friend Hollie’s wedding

When Dave and I mess around and get silly, I see love for me in his eyes like at no other time. Having a romantic connection is the foundation of any marriage but being able to laugh and see each other as best friends is icing on the cake.
2. In Berlin’s Schwartzes Cafe in 2008

No sleep. All day and night on the plane. Starving. Wearing my travel wardrobe of cardigans and skinny jeans. When I think of “pre-baby Megan” this is the person I visualize. Dave took this picture of me in my exhaustion at a beautiful dinner we had as we began our first Berlin vacation together.
3. Cooking when I first got married

After we got married, I started cooking, baking, and sending lunches to work with Dave for…oh…a month? I’m not a cook, but I gave it a good try! I felt so cute and domestic. It’s not who I am, but it’s fun to play a role.
4. Watching my first runway collection take the stage

I felt so powerful and successful and proud this day. It was only the beginning of a new chapter and I knew it. Knowing the potential a project has is such an adrenaline rush because you don’t know if you will be able to make it happen.
5. Speaking at Meet the Pros last year

I love speaking and I always feel confident when I know what I’m talking about and I think I look good. It doesn’t hurt to have a handsome partner, right? Right?
When was the last time you felt beautiful?
This was one of the questions on our reader survey this year.
A few of my favorite answers:
“This past Saturday. I was out at the ballpark, cheering on my dad’s Senior Softball team as they played in a tournament. I was sweaty, with my hair back in a messy french braid, comfy in a t-shirt, and just plain happy.” (That sounds so beautiful.)
“Dancing around the living room last night, singing along to “You can’t stop the beat” on the ‘Dance on Broadway’ game on the Wii!” (my mom loves Hairspray!)
“Saturday, new nursing bra which finally fits, going to friends for lunch with friends wearing pre-pregnancy clothes and strangers cooing over my son
” (Been there girl!!)
“At my 13-yr. old son’s athletic banquet last week. I felt beautiful to be his mom.” (That brought a tear to my eye.)
Comment to win a package of something beautiful.

Totally superficial, but I felt beautiful when I was finally able to fit back into my pre-pregnancy jeans!

I think feeling beautiful when you’re alone is the most important, when you’re at home, unadorned. It we wait for others’ approval to confirm beauty, we’ll probably never be able to generate it ourselves when it’s most important–usually those quiet, private moments when we’re feeling low and have lost sight of our own value.

I feel beautiful when I can help someone else out, or make their day a little bit easier by donating my skills.

The last time I felt beautiful was earlier this week on my birthday, out on a date with my husband. It’s hard to believe I’m 33 but there is truth to the idea that being 30something brings a new kind of confidence.

I last felt beautiful: Yesterday. The women who were my antenatal group still meet every week, even though our then-bellies are our now-9-month-olds. And sitting around, drinking tea, discussing teething and current events and each other, the beauty of our shared experience made me feel beautiful.

I felt beautiful and confident yesterday when I whipped my hair up into a bun, put on a fringey necklace and some sunglasses and went for an early morning bike ride. The streets were quiet and the wind was blowing gently as I coasted through the neighborhoods. It was one of those “moments” where you are in complete awe. Simple yet so beautiful!

On Sunday my husband and I got dressed up for a night on the town. I wore a short black dress with tights and heels and even with blisters on my feet from walking around all night, I still felt hot.

I never wear heels. I am 5’8″ but I got some platform wedge heels and am nearly 6 feet in them and I feel so confident and beautiful in them.

What a wonderful post, Megan! I feel beautiful today at 38+3 weeks pregnant after listening to a “Joyful Pregnancy Affirmations” track, which includes the statement “I love my pregnant body and accept it every day” (this is actually the only statement it repeats twice in a row…hehe). Throughout pregnancy, as I’ve learned all about childbirth in preparation for a homebirth, I’ve grown to appreciate SO MUCH the strength and power of the female body. I think this time has done wonders for my self-esteem.

Thank you for this inspiring post. I’m feeling down about my looks lately; the exhaustion of finishing up the school year (I’m a teacher) has worn me out and I hate to look in the mirror. This post reminded me that beauty isn’t just about looks. Thanks!

Your blogs are always my favourite to read – they make me so happy and motivated! I think the last time I felt beautiful was about 2 weeks ago when I finally got back into some pre-pregnancy jeans and went to the movies with my husband. It was so nice to just start to feel like myself again after a rough 6 month start to having my daughter!

I last felt beautiful this morning! Hubby left for work before I got up. I was still in bed, with morning breath and sleepy eyes but the way he looked at me made me feel like I was all dolled up, ready for date night. Love him!!

Thanks for pointing out that is completely okay to allow yourself to feel beautiful, so many people feel like they are being vain when that isn’t the case.

It is such a difficult one, and honestly not a feeling I know if I’ve ever felt. Strength, power, confidence probably the last time I got on a horse aged 20. I have self confidence issues! LOL

The other night, I wore my reception dress (with a cute cardigan and funky tights) from my wedding on a date with my husband to go see the new Woody Allen movie Midnight in Paris…He recognized the dress and smiled sweetly…and I felt very beautiful.

I last felt beautiful on Monday night. I was in New Orleans, at Preservation Hall listening to a glorious jazz band. I was completely covered in sweat (it was about 100 degrees in there, and very humid) but I couldn’t help but dance around to the beat. As I left the band leader told me that I looked like I had been enjoying myself.

Megan, you are such an inspiration. Your writing is so inviting and personal that all of these strangers put forth so many intimate moments.
As for my moment of feeling truly beautiful — recently I’ve been struggling with my appearance and I finally found a vintage-style bathing suit that makes me feel confident. For the first time since puberty, I walked around in my skivvies feeling totally comfortable in my skin. That feeling was wonderful!
Your best posts are when you share your insight into beauty, confidence, and what it means to have them both. Kudos.

Over the last 2 and half years, I’ve lost 88 pounds. During the journey I started running and am now training for a half-marathon! I feel pretty every day, but the last time I felt beautiful was last week after a particularly hard training run – I was soaking wet with sweat, my hair was a mess, my face was flushed…but I’d run like hell and had a great time and I felt strong, proud, and accomplished. And that’s beautiful to me.

No way. I want to play this game.
I last felt beautiful when I was substitute teaching Kindergarten a few weeks ago and our theme was the zoo. I had a really amazing weekend so I decided to dress up for work every day that week. On Friday, one of the mother’s came up to me and said Carissa had dressed up at home and put on her mom’s high heels and said, “Look at me, I’m Miss Conklin, I’m so pretty!” It was incredible. Because I not only felt beautiful because of my outfits but because I was doing something I love to do.

This inspires me. I have a quote from Eleanor Roosevelt in my cube that says, Do one thing everyday that scares you. I want to try to at least once a week to do something that makes me feel beautiful.
