Our tiny cupcake toppers in Inspired Ideas magazine!

As much as I love the tactile experience of thumbing through the shiny paper pages of a traditional magazine, I have been really enamored with online ones lately. Maybe it’s because I’m impatient and I hate waiting for subscriptions to my house (and my favorite store for fancy magazines is closing–bye bye Borders! waaaah) or maybe I’m falling in love because so many adorable, beautiful, and inspiring online magazines have sprung up lately!

One of my favorite new online magazines is Inspired Ideas from my sweet and generous friend Amy Powers. Three issues in, and I’m already hooked on its cute tutorials, gorgeous layouts, and the original sketches and doodles (from Pamela Keravuori!) that tie it all together. Amy has long been a creative inspiration of mine, and she asked me to be a contributor to this issue’s summer craft happy theme. My girls Shannon and Emma and I took supplies with us to Spirit Lake last month and came up with a great tutorial on how to make felt cupcake toppers that would work for a birthday party, baby or wedding shower, or even as a wedding favor. The issue comes out today and is only $3.99! Let me know if you make our cupcake toppers and share the pictures!
Here are a few outtakes from our tutorial and the picnic we had afterward to eat the cupcakes.

I encourage you to check out Inspired Ideas, a great online magazine chock-full of dozens of tutorials that anyone can create and draw inspiration from.

cute, cute, cute toppers, so many ways to change these for other events…or add them later to headbands?!?
…and i just have to say, that sweet baby girl in her ittle ruffled dress with the striped leggings could put a smile on anyone’s face.
