To-Do List: July 11-17

Posted on 10. Jul, 2011 by in Grab Bag

Check out the next issue of Inspired Ideas magazine for this cupcake topper tutorial.

07.11.11

1. Meeting with the other Barcamp Omaha organizers as we are getting into planning this year’s event. Attendees can expect some exciting format changes–we all agree that in its fourth year, it’s time to shake up Barcamp a little bit.

2. Going to the Paisley Poppy downtown to talk about working together to design some unique new flower arrangements and DIY projects to share here that would appeal to more traditional brides.

3. Finalizing my model selections for our runway shows next month. Having a few sponsors come into CAMP to finalize event plans.

07.12.11

1. Going to an open house for a Montessori school just down the block from our house. I’m hoping Alice can start their little preschool next fall, and it’s one of those where you have to apply. I’m eager to see what the school is like!

2. Mailing out the giveaway packages from last week! I’ll do a cute post about what we put together too.

3. Working on finishing up the rest of our July orders. Deadlines!

Flowers for one of our July brides, Ellie.

07.13.11

1. Going to breakfast with a man in my industry who I’ve wanted to meet for a long time and develop a mentoring relationship with. I’m so nervous and hopefully I won’t look too tired…breakfast is hard for me. :)

2. Meeting with the editor of Cut Out + Keep, a web magazine and online community that profiles DIY artists and shares tons of tutorials.

3. Going to Scout in midtown to talk about some cross-promotional ideas that we could do together.

07.14.11

Emma, me, and Shannon

1. It’s the one-year jobaversary of my first employee, Shannon!

2. Going to Sioux City to meet with Joi of Dress Forms Design to talk about new fabrics and the perfect grey and white stripe for this year’s collection. (Dropping at Fashion Week on August 25th! Have you bought your tickets? I will have a few to give away eventually.)

07.15.11

1. Gotta do payroll.

2. Meeting with a little girl who lives here locally who won a silent auction for one of my girls’ dresses (soon to come for you guys to buy). She’ll be here for the entire made-to-measure experience–having measurements taken, choosing fabrics and embellishments, and then by next week she will have her own custom-made dress just for her.

3. Going to the AIGA 365 opening reception to see some of this year’s best work in graphic design and marketing.

4. Meeting with some applicants for our summer and fall internships at CAMP!

07.16.11

1. Omaha Fashion Week’s Emerging Designer Show! It’s so cool that there is a platform here in Omaha where beginning designers can showcase their work, get feedback, and find new fans and customers. I have a cabana reserved for 20 of my friends and we are going to get rowdy.

2. Going to the The Omaha Girls Rock showcase–now THIS is something you can’t miss because it is for the coolest cause ever, to support young girls who want to learn how to play rock n roll! Omaha Girls Rock’s mission is to give girls the confidence to use their voices through music education and performance, and cultivate the DIY values that form the core of the independent music experience. The girls at the camp this week will be encouraged to develop their confidence, self reliance and original thinking, and learn how to apply these values in all aspects of their lives. The event is backed by an amazing group of organizers, including local musicians Stefanie Drootin of The Good Life and Azure Ray, Orenda Fink, Laura Burhenn of The Mynabirds, and about a dozen other strong, independent women involved here in music and outreach. Stoked.

07.17.11

1. Slowing down and writing thank-you notes.

2. Selecting interns.

I hope you have a great week full of promising opportunities and nice people. Do something new tomorrow!
