radvent day 5: drawing

“Drawing is a way for your unconscious to speak.” -SARK
Do you have lots of blank notebooks?
Are you waiting for the perfect ideas to fill them with?
What will happen if you just draw in them?
I like to always have a notebook going–they are fun to look back on as the years go by. My archive of datebooks is in my desk at work. I love reopening them and bring transported back to each day–the tasks, the worries, the excitements, even the relationships forming. I can see the first time I had a meeting with someone who became a good friend. I can see the day I got a phone call from someone who ended up offering me a speaking spot at a conference. I can see the preparation that went into every event that went off without a hitch. I can look back at all the doctor appointments I had when I was pregnant and thoughts I jotted down as I was getting to know Alice.

Blank notebooks and sketchbooks are all over my house and office. I get them all over–at trade shows, in gift bags, from friends and relatives, sometimes I buy them when I see one I like and forget that I already own a thousand. At an event I taught at in September I got LOTS of them in my gift bag, and I dedicated a thin purple lined notebook I received as a “just for fun” scribble book to keep in my planner.

I always stop myself from writing “non-serious” things in my everyday planner. I feel like if I look back through my appointments and notes over the last months (I keep all my planners and still refer to notes made in datebooks from three years ago) and see nonsense or disjointed scribbles it would give me anxiety. I gave up trying to get over that and just stuck a separate notebook into my planner just for that purpose. There. Problem solved.
I’ll give you a look inside my free-thought notebook…(unbelievable how Instagram and the iPhone have affected how I share when writing)

And here is the picture of my best friend. :]

Sorry if this double posts, but I think my last comment was lost somewhere in the interwebs.
I just wanted to share that I also carrying around lots of little notebooks. I have my planner that I live and die by and list take in, my notes/inspiration/scratch paper/less important list notebook, and my newly adopted wedding planning notebook. I’m loving Radvent and I’ve been keeping up! Here are mine:

I do the same thing! I carry around a planner that I live and die by with month view and week view. I color code and highlight everything in month view and keep all of my serious lists in week view. I also also carry around a little notebook for random inspiration, ideas (I write screenplays for fun) and scratch paper, and now another one for wedding planning. Here are some recent drawings, as well as all my Radvent posts:

i wish you would compile all the journalling prompts into a little book! i hate journals with prompts, but these are brilliant. the best i have ever seen (in my 14 years of journalling and 40+ journals). i have every single one from last year printed out, in a desk drawer (under my old planners!), waiting for me… these are lovely and thought provoking and FUN. maybe i will start radventing the day of my last class for this semester. a sweet treat for winter break. thanks for everything you do, megan.
