welcome to the family, 40 pounds of vintage buttons!

Yesterday, my business partner Sarah and I were on a vintage buying trip for of our new ecommerce startup, Hello Holiday. We were at the home of a woman with a huge collection of vintage jewelry that we were looking through, and she casually mentioned that she had lots of old buttons as well. Didn’t have to beat me over the head with it–I was interested to say the least!

I left her house with almost 40 pounds of beautiful vintage buttons. Lots of teal and purple (which I’m always low on), tons of glittery rhinestones, and many shapes and designs that I’d never even seen before.

In my office, I sort them by color and value to make sure that everyone’s bouquet has about the same dollar amount of materials. It also helps me price things like brooches and kits when I put those together for customers.

I’m still in the sorting stage, but enjoy these photos of my haul! You’ll probably see more of these guys in the shop soon.

xx

There is just something about buttons! Obviously, there is the visual…the beautiful shapes, colors, designs…some are just amazing little works of art! I love when I open a jar of buttons and get that funky sort of formaldehyde smell that tells me there are some true vintage in the mix, but my most favorite part of a new batch of buttons is pouring them out on the table and running my hands over them, feeling all the various textures and hearing that click, click, click sound….

This looks amazing! I’m currently sorting through about 1/4th the amount you got. I’m thinking about storing them in mason jars by color.

When I was little, my most favorite thing to do was sort my Grandma’s buttons. I wish I could through all of those!

Vogue Fabric has $1 per cup bins. I love running my hands through those and tend to lose track of time going through them as I decide how to fill my cup. Because just scooping them up is boring! :)
