Today at 7am, Sarah and I are flying to Las Vegas for Magic, the biggest fashion retail trade event in the United States. It’s our second buying trip for Hello Holiday, and we’ve been looking forward to it all year since it’s such a big one. Things we are looking for specifically are quirky costume jewelry designers, comfortable and fashionable shoes, cute clothes for the curvier ladies among us, and cotton party dresses. We’re also looking forward to touching base with some of our favorite brands we’re already stocking for launch early next month.
Here’s what I’m packing in my pink polka dot suitcase. All of the tops and one of the skirts is from JC Penney. I got them yesterday with a gift card, and the total was just $75. I thought that was an awesome deal for four new pieces that all mix and match together. Honestly, I always find a gem at Penney’s. The maxi dress is for the plane and the 108-degree weather. The sunglasses I’m going to gank out of Sarah’s purse when she’s not looking (they’re hers). The look I’m going for in Vegas is “Preppy Luxury Nebraska.”
We’ll be away at Magic for the entire week, and when we get back Friday night we’ll promptly start getting ready for our Omaha Fashion Week VIP finale party the next day. We’ll be stuffing gift bags, finishing our table decorations and seating chart, coordinating food and drink, and deciding what to wear. I can’t decide if I want to wear something from our inventory at Hello Holiday (which would be best, but it also means one less thing for customers to buy, which sort of pains me), or if I should wear something I already have.
I want to do some video posts this week while I’m at Magic because I’d love to show what goes on behind-the-scenes in retail at these markets. When we started Hello Holiday that was something I couldn’t find anywhere. If you have any questions I can answer about sourcing inventory, buying at trade shows, or whatever else, leave it in the comments and I’ll talk about it in a video!
I’ll miss Alice so much. Can’t wait to hear about school this week. So excited to go on this trip. It’s an insane insane insane season of life right now.
