painting a cabinet

After ladies lunch at Valentino’s Pizza yesterday, Alice and I stopped by McMillan Antiques on Leavenworth, my favorite place to pick up quality vintage furniture. A few years ago, I bought this yellow dresser there that I use now for Alice’s clothes, and I wanted to find something similar to place next to it for more storage. She doesn’t need her changing table anymore so I thought I’d do a little redecorating in her room.

I found this white metal cabinet for $20 and decided to paint it yellow. I’m using flat latex wall paint just because I had it on hand, which I’m now seeing might not be the best type to use. I might give it another round with some spray paint instead.

I’ll post some final pictures when I figure out how to finish it. For metal, I should probably spray paint, right?

  • Paint it, baby!

Ditto on the spray paint. I like Rustolem with the nice big spray handle instead of that little white nozzle. Some people prefer to use primer first for added durability…My fav is Zinsser (sp?) 123 Prime (also a spray).

You’ll probably find that the flat latex paint will show marks and fingerprints really quickly. I’m a big fan of spray paint – super quick and awesome results! You would get great coverage on the metal with spray paint.
