It’s 3:28am and I’ve just lived through a night I’m never gonna forget. I’m three glasses of champagne in, too.
Posting this, my phone is blowing up with notifications of orders–I get a little blip every time someone places one. It’s one of the most emotional things I’ve ever done, after the birth of my daughter, honestly. I’m so happy. I know that a lot of you reading this have been here with me for years–since I got married, since before I had my baby, ordering pins for $15, reading and silently supporting. I’m in my business partner’s basement, where all our inventory is being housed (stacked to the ceilings!) until we move into our office in the next week or so. I’ve started packing up some of the orders coming in, stuffing the boxes with pom poms and streamers. Troubleshooting things on the site, trying to find bugs, fixing things. Today feels like exam day. Anxiety and hope and diligence.
All day we were at Lovestruck, Omaha’s first creative bridal event, a non-traditional wedding fair for modern couples that I co-organized. We had a booth for Hello Holiday with our favorite looks for brides–something for engagement photos, a bridal shower, a rehearsal dinner, bachelorette party, etc etc. After we wrapped up that event around 8:30, Sarah and I went out to dinner with Shannon (who’s been working with me for over two years now and is now with Hello Holiday) because we wanted to take a moment of calm before all the work that was to come in our futures. We sat at the table silently, on our phones. Reading the messages coming in from people excited to shop, excited to see the launch of our site. Our food came, we gulped down our sodas, we lingered at the table a bit, trying to delay the gigantic leap we had to take.
Look at the work of Jane Round, an 18-year-old designer from Omaha, Nebraska who is now studying fashion design at FIT in New York City. We’ll be uploading more from her throughout the next few weeks, all cotton dresses, easy to style, comfortable to wear, versatile to take you from the Autumn into the colder months. She’s the first in a growing roster of emerging designers, honoring us with her time, talent, and original work, all designed just for you. For NORMAL WOMEN. For everyday people who need good clothes. Just good clothes.
I’ll still be doing Princess Lasertron–bouquets and accessories for brides. It’s so fulfilling for me to do embroidery, to work with my hands, and to contribute to one of the biggest milestones in a couple’s life. Many people have asked me if the beginning of Hello Holiday means the end of Princess Lasertron, and the answer is no. But I’ve grown up as a person outside of my identity of PL a lot in the last year or so–it’s a personal brand, but I can’t let that box me in or limit my potential in other endeavors.
Anyway. The point is. The website is up. Love you.
