scans from my sketchbook: flats, wedges, heels

Fashion can be such a pretentious space to build a career, and that’s something I’ve always tried (though sometimes failed) to fall into. Wearing the same dress every day is how I’m practical, and shoes and accessories is how I’m whimsical. I wanted to share these watercolor paintings I did of some of my favorite shoes.

All shoes available at Hello Holiday.

Fifteen Favorite Things

1: Tavi Gevinson on the Nylon "It Girl" cover. We met her and did crafts together when Rookie came through Omaha on their tour, and she posted a picture of Alice’s pennant banner! Tavi called Alice a “rookie Rookie” and my heart melted. I also love the photos by Petra Collins and the intro by Hazel Cills. Writing for Rookie would be a dream. Let’s just say I’m a huge fan and this is a great article. 2: Our new Pounce Boots. I’ve been waiting for these bad boys since February! 3: My hair is growing out (No reason? I just stopped cutting it I guess?) and my go-to style has been to curl sections of my hair with a 1’’ iron and set them with these curl clips. It’s so easy.

Applejack Festival in Nebraska City, AKA Alice’s Best Weekend Ever

We left with a five pounds of freshly picked apples, a purse full of parade candy, worn-out carnival wristbands, and an angry sunburn to remember the trip by. The Entrepreneur Experience: An Interview with Lane Kennedy-Levy

I wanted to share this interview that just went up with Lane Kennedy Levy. It's a video interview about entrepreneurship, motherhood, the illusion of balance, regrets, TIPS, anxiety, mentors. I did the interview about 10 minutes after waking up from sleeping on the couch behind me all night. Cameos from my business partner Sarah and Hugo!

Personality Features

Never before has there been so much free advice at our fingertips for self-help in managing depression and anxiety, but so many years of trying to overcome the dumps by reading articles about gratitude and quotes about happiness and writing lists about small successes makes me more feel like I'm trying to dig myself out of quicksand. Thinking and meaning-making about my mood does nothing to improve my happiness. There's no logical solution to this because it's an unreasonable problem.

90-Minute Keynote

Posing a few questions to fellow speakers, fellow audience members (current and former), and fellow easily distracted people. Next month I'm presenting a 90-minute keynote address at a conference (subject: new-media marketing/youth markets) and I am terrified. Looking to my friends for a little guidance and reassurance on this.
