Holy moly!
Soooo much moving/unpacking over the last five days.
We still aren’t done…
…and I caught a cold.

We went to a beautiful wedding that I can’t wait to share pictures of. You will die over the bride’s handmade couture wedding gown and hair flowers. There’s a picture of our table up there…I loved the masks! Everyone in the bridal party had a gorgeous handmade mask with fun details like beading and feathers.

I feel like I had more to say but I forgot it.
But I am here and I am just trying to keep up.

Whew!

A few days ago, a cake decorator from Kansas e-mailed me and said that she had been asked to design a cake for a photoshoot in a national bridal magazine, and when looking for inspiration on Flickr, she came across a bouquet I made for Jessica, one of my past brides:

She designed a cake based on that bouquet design, and asked me if I could re-create the bouquet for the photoshoot in four days.

I said sure!

When I get the green light to give more details about the cake artist and magazine, I will. But this is really really big news!

Thanks so much for all of your kind words and positive thoughts! I knew it would feel more “real” once we announced that we were expecting, and it’s really fun to not have to keep it a secret anymore. I’ve been bursting at the seams to talk about paint colors for the baby’s room, furniture, the cute stuff I scored at Ikea, as well as the nausea and complete exhaustion. My mom said she could tell I was bursting…she thought I was leaving lots of hints here on my blog. Maaaybe.

A lot of you asked me some good questions that I want to answer in a post.

Q: Are you going to start a line of baby products?
A: Although I’m sure that I’ll make a lot of individual things for my kid and share the pictures and tutorials with all of you, I’m not planning on starting a line of products. I think that I already have too many irons in the fire–the 2010 dress line, the new website (we’re working out bugs now so it will be as easy for you to use as possible), trying to get on the Martha Stewart Show, doing a collabo with a Texas-based fashion design company, writing a book proposal, plus all of the new challenges and goals presented by my impending nuclear family. And in the short term I’d really just like to get moved into our new house. And in the shorter term I need to finish this amazing navy/white/silver bouquet! (And it’s for a national bridal magazine..! And they need it by the 16th! And we close on the 16th! Ack!)

Q: Are you going to find out the gender?
A: Definitely! I want to have this knowledge beforehand…I don’t want a lab tech somewhere knowing the gender of my kid when I don’t! I’d also like to be able to have a name in mind before it is born so that when he/she comes into the world I will already be used to calling it by its name!

Q: How have you been feeling?
A: Uncomfortable. Nauseous. Worst acne of my life. Every smell is repulsive. Extremely tired–I used to be able to go for about 40 hours at a time, and now I can’t stay awake more than 12. I don’t have much of an appetite and it seems like any nutrients I eat come right back up, which is frustrating (especially for the poor man who drove across town to get the food for me). But baby is healthy–we even got to see its heartbeat at my last appointment. I’ll be going back to the doctor sometime next week–I can’t wait to see how much it’s grown!

Q: Do you guys have any names in mind yet?
A: We’ve been joking that if it’s a girl, we’ll name her LaWeez (pronounced like “Louise” with spelling as an homage to rapper Lil’ Wayne) and for a boy, Kla$i (with the dollar signs to indicate the high degree of classiness). Realistically though, we are having trouble coming up with names that we both like. If you have any suggestions, we’ll take em!

Q: What plans do you have for the baby’s room?
A: I think we are going to do grey/white/black with natural birch wood. I’m into a really minimalist, functional aesthetic for my new house right now. On one wall I’d like to do an abstract, graphic mural because I hope that abstract art will be more stimulating for creativity. See, there I go already, being a child raising expert.

Dave and I are really excited to announce that we are expecting our first child. I’m three months along and our baby is due May 4.

We can’t wait to be parents. I’ve been having so much fun looking at all of the awesome baby products out there and planning the colors and decor for the baby’s room in our new house. I eat a pbj sandwich from Panera almost every day. Everything Dave eats in front of me makes me throw up. And I can no longer wear any of my pants. My mom says that she was nauseous through her entire pregnancy, but I have high hopes to start feeling better in the next few weeks!

So. That’s just an fyi for you. We are so excited. This is going to be a big year!

Every day I wait to look at the latest photo collection from Paul Mathers until before I go to bed. All of the pictures he saves represent such pure joy and wonder, and I have to share this little secret with you.

I’m being totally swallowed up by the moving process!
On Friday this week we get the keys to our cute new house. I am so excited but I’m really eager for the whole process to be finished!
Then again, it’s never finished, is it?

I don’t know what I’m going to do with all of the projects I’m working on right now for customers–pack them last and unpack them first!

I think that super-new content like style diary pages, outfits, and questions from you will have to wait about a week until I get some more time to write. Until then it will probably be pretty stream-of-consciousness-y.

Sometime this week though I do have some big news to share.

Ashley Nicole and her husband Bryan got married yesterday in Wisconsin…I’m anxiously awaiting photos from the professional photographer couple, but until then I can show you guys some shots of the flowers I made for them!

Each of the four bridesmaids had a different colored bouquet…

And Ashley’s bouquet was a combination of all of the colors in her wedding–marine, olive, pink, plum, and white!

I already have gotten so much awesome feedback about these sunflower wrist corsages…

…and the boutonnieres for the gentlemen turned out really lovely too!

One special request Ashley had that was really fun to work on was an embroidered felt skull to pin on the back of her dress amidst a cluster of fabric flowers that were already part of the dress. I can’t wait to see how that look turned out!

And Bryan wanted a special camera boutonniere with felt leaves instead of the regular bouts that the other guys had.

I know this was a very unique wedding and I can’t wait to see the pro pics! Congrats again Ashley Nicole and Bryan!

Sheryl is one of my rare local customers who was referred to me by Sandi, another woman I previously worked with.

Sheryl ordered this bouquet and a few extra loose flowers for her daughter’s October 10 wedding–coming up fast!

They seem Christmassy, but setting them off with brown accents with the other wedding details will help bring them back to Autumn.

Congratulations to Sheryl’s daughter!
