in list form: parties, links, mad men.
Posted on 17. Aug, 2010 by Princess Lasertron.
1. My good friend and model Sarah Lorsung Tvrdik has entered a contest to be on an episode of Mad Men. You can vote for her every day and if she wins, I will do a giveaway for a free dress from my upcoming line. Isn’t she beautiful?

Fancy pro photos by Bill Sitzmann. Go vote!!!!!!! Every day!!! And win a dress!!!!!
2. Last Saturday we hosted one of the legs of the Joslyn Museum’s annual Young Art Patrons art crawl event at CAMP where I showed the progress of my dress line and explained the coworking concept to attendees. It was a great turnout–almost as many people as we had for our opening party. Here are a few pictures from the night.

So yeah Dave and his friends came and played Magic the whole time.
3. I had so much fun reading the comments from Meg Duerksen’s blog about things to do with your kids in the summer. I can’t wait until Alice gets older and we can do some of these awesome activities. Actually I can wait…she’s already growing up so fast. Take your time, pancake. Anyway this stuff looks way fun and creative.
4. CAMP was recently featured on the front page of the Omaha-World Herald money section. It’s a good read about coworking.
5. …and we were also featured on KPTM news here locally. I’m linking to my friend Andy’s site instead of KPTM’s because I don’t know when they are taking the video down and I don’t want the link to be broken. Also the KPTM site has too many ads. I had to be here at 10am for the interview! Too early!\
6. I’m in the final stage of finishing up all the embellishments on the dresses…I can’t resist a tease.

A LITTLE tease.

meagan and alex’s engagement pictures
Posted on 21. Jul, 2010 by Princess Lasertron.
Meagan recently shared some of the photos from her and Alex’s engagement session and they are so cool and whimsical! They used a few bunches of my button flowers in the shots so of course I had to share those.

My favorite thing about engagement shoots is seeing the props they use.

The use of the book of poetry, the pinwheel, the flowers, and the umbrella is adorable. Playful love.

Still waiting on that overseas shipment. It’s getting a little silly.

1. A cardboard box full of little posie flowers…I spent six hours working on these last night! Finishing the other half tonight. I love the colors–I think they are very Todd Oldham or Orla Kiely. 2. On Saturday morning, Mr. Lasertron and I went to the newest vegetarian restaurant in Omaha, Daily Grub (formerly Clean Plate). (Isn’t that a huge juxtaposition in names? “Clean Plate” to “Daily Grub?” Complete opposite connotations.) The farm-to-table diner has gotten rave reviews so far, but we didn’t have a good experience. I will wait another week and try them again before passing final judgment. 3. Tonight I got my picture taken for the cover of Shout Omaha’s “30 under 30″ issue! The magazine should be on newsstands all over Omaha on Wednesday or Thursday. The photoshoot was at Catch Creative and I’m posing there with Eric Downs of Downs Design. This was the last thing that I have to do in my pregnancy–for the next week or so I’ll just be vegging at home in my pajamas and working! 4. My grumpy boys doing their homework.
Announcing the giveaway winner tomorrow. Very interesting answers from this year’s reader survey! Thanks to everyone (over 600 of you!) who took the time to share their thoughts with me. I’m going to finish reading through the responses tonight and share what I learned!

starting some flowers and pictures from today
Posted on 23. Apr, 2010 by Princess Lasertron.
I’m still waiting on that darn overseas shipment to finish all the orders I have on my desk right now. Stupid volcano!
I started the day by visiting CAMP, my new studio and coworking space, with my friend Eric Downs who will be working there with me. The buildout process is starting this week and I wanted to get another look at the unfinished space and visualize the styling for the furniture and decor. I’m still torn on what to do with the floor. What would you do? Maybe just give it a good polish? Leave it raw?

I also started some flower seeds that were given to me by my friend Emily who works at the bank. Planting them in little peat cups just made my day and I hope some of them germinate so I can transplant them in my front yard!

So lots of manual labor and work–cleaning, yard work, and going for walks. I’ve been having hard but irregular contractions all day, and right now we’re in a tornado watch. So cross your fingers that I have this kid in my basement next to the cat litter.
And thanks to my sweet husband for the waffles.

day of fun
Posted on 21. Apr, 2010 by Princess Lasertron.
Well I did fewer things today than I planned to.
I woke up late and asked myself what I really wanted to do today. If I could do anything. I decided that I wanted to take a long shower, lay around in my husband’s soft bathrobe, and then get a pedicure later (lavender). After visiting the salon I trolled around a few vintage shops looking for furniture. A little more relaxed than I originally planned!
But here are a few random pictures from my day of fun.

And I worked anyway. (I’m waiting on a shipment of more headbands from the UK…it’s been held up forever because of the volcano and I’m frustrated!)

Welcome to Earf: Alice’s baby shower photos!
Posted on 12. Apr, 2010 by Princess Lasertron.
On Saturday, my friends Kristal and Sarah hosted a party for me and Dave and invited all of our friends to come together for a Welcome Alice party!

I love all the planning that went on behind the scenes–a gray and yellow theme, the girls coordinating with Dave and my mom to have my favorite snacks, a sweet playlist and a casual atmosphere. If I were to imagine the best baby shower I ever went to, all of my friends would be invited regardless of gender and nobody would have to put their butt in a chair and play a game. It’s the perfect approach to party planning and Sarah and Kristal were awesome hostesses!

“Welcome to Earf” is a Will Smith quote. Can anyone name that movie?

Kristal made vegan cupcakes so Dave could have them too.

My good friend Eric Downs came and even designed this little Alice graphic and printed it on his wrapping paper! He is moving into CAMP with me next month and I think he is as excited as Dave and I are about this kid. Anyway I framed the graphic and it’s hanging in her room until we get some other pictures!

My friends Jen and Jenny got us these onesies and Jenny actually took the time to embroider one…

Isn’t that mindblowing? She even replicated the typeface I use for my branding. I can’t believe the thoughtfulness, I have the coolest friends.

My mom and dad came and gave us lots of vintage toys which I love. One package held a big stack of Little Golden Books…remember those? This one is called “We Help Daddy.” Surprisingly (?) it’s not sexist at all and the message is very cute.

This book is titled “I Can Fly” and the girl in it is a little naughty…

We got a lot of yellow rompers and dresses. I’m stoked on this one because I have a dress just like it. And yes I will be the mom that dresses her kids to match her.

My little friend Tatiana (her sweet mama was one of my models) helped Jenny keep a list of the gifts and drew me some pictures too.

LOVE this chair. It’s the one I sat in for the Omaha Magazine photoshoot!

Dave and I were sitting on our porch today, eating leftover pizza, talking about how lucky we are to have such kind and generous friends. We were so surprised when Kristal and Sarah offered to have this party for us, and it was a much-needed chance for us to reconnect with all of our pals for a last time all together before our life takes this huge turn around the bend. As one of the first couples in our friends group to have kids, it feels nice to know that they aren’t bailing out on us, know what I mean? They are all just so thoughtful. It was the best day.
Photos taken by Jon Tvrdik and my mom. More here!
