my best friend

I’ve been having a lot of fun with my husband Dave lately. Buying a house, taking a little time off work, and doing things around town (excited for Omaha Fashion Week this Saturday) has been awesome and I try to remember all the funny things Dave says to me:
dave: look! I have alllllll the kitties.
me: when I die when I’m 55 because I ate cheese and you live to be 120 because you never do, you’re going to become a crazy cat man.
dave: I’m going to buy 100 cats and name them alllllll megan.
dave: megan
dave: megan
dave: megan you can spell ‘wanker’ with amino acids. cool huh.
me: yeah.
dave: that’s my favorite one, wanker. if I was making a test, I would tell my students, “okay guys, draw the protein ‘wanker.’” I wonder how many times ‘wanker’ comes up in our dna code. like in a protein. like how often our dna codes for the protein ‘wanker.’
dave: megan
dave: megan did you hear that?
me: yeah, that’s really good
Yup, I like Dave. He works hard, makes me laugh, and does almost all of the chores (he’s the Felix to my Oscar). I recommend marrying your best friend.

dear david:
happy happy happy happy birthday. you are the sweetest, kindest man to ever be born.
love,
meg
For his 32nd birthday, Dave wanted to invite friends over and try his hand at making sushi. We started with traditional avacado rolls, then made asparagus rolls, and I think they looked great!
As the beer flowed, peanut butter rolls and frosting rolls were added to the mix…my boys will eat anything.
The sushi looked better than my vegan funfetti cupcakes (look how cute they were in the original picture!!! My cupcakes NEVER turn out like that). They look like a sheet of cookies but sadly they are just my schlumpy misshapen cupcakes.
But they tasted GLORIOUS.
About 15 people came in and out and we all ended up on the porch talking until about 7am.
I love our friends. Thanks to everyone who came over.
And David, I love you. Stay fabulous forever!

I went to the book release party of my friend Steve Gordon for his new book, 100 Habits of Successful Freelance Designers.
The beautifully designed and illustrated book is geared toward graphic designers, but everyone in the creative industries can gain knowledge and inspiration from Steve and the other designers who contributed to this amazing book.
And that’s us! Obligatory long-armed iPhone picture.
As I often mention, we have an amazing neighborhood shop that serves homemade ice cream in so many creative flavors. I deserved some after the Omaha Pillow Fight. (I even lost a button on my shirt!)
Turbo the Cat thought he deserved some too. But much to his dismay, he is an indoor cat.
This is a picture I took up the street from my house on Underwood, a fun local street filled with shops and boutiques, cute little restaurants, and this decidedly not-so-picturesque gas station. The clock is cool, though–I can hear it chime every 15 minutes from our house.
Part of a large flower order I just did that was super heavy on the rhinestones and vintage lace.
Getting ice cream (again), and Professor Lasertron giving a rare peek at his constant reminder of his hardcore punk past. It’s Thor fighting…Jörmungandr. I had to google the name of Thor’s dragon. I think he should finish the sleeve…see how Thor’s poor little foot just trails off into nothing? I guess that’s when Dave’s time was up at the tattoo parlor.
When I started dating Dave, he came to the lake a few times to swim and my parents couldn’t help but notice his tattooed arms and legs. When I told them I was serious about him, my dad’s first response was “Well I don’t want my grandchildren coming out with tattoos.” Funny.
I don’t have any ink and I most likely never will. Do you?

‘Tis the season I suppose.

Hi all, Professor Laserlasers here. Just like everyone else in the cold white north of Nebraska Megan caught a nasty cold bug. This, of course, makes her very unhappy (see pic #1 below) and as a result she will probably be working/blogging/emailing a lot less in the next few days while her immune system gets her better.
In the meantime I’ll be helping her spoon cheerios into her mouth, and clicking back and forth between TLC’s What Not To Wear and Lifetime’s Mommy Why? whenever I hear the corresponding grunt that means “change channels plz”.
I also have been making waffles because i bought the cheap cold medicine that requires you to eat with waffles instead of just taking it with water like all the other pills. As a scientist I should know the reason for this, but I’m clueless. I suspect its more of a sneaky attempt at marketting synergy between the waffle companies and Walgreens. Further testing is forthcoming…
xx oo,
The Prof
