princess lasertron f/w 2012 – photos from omaha fashion week

I’m so excited to see these first photos coming in from the Omaha Fashion Week show last Friday where I showed my fall/winter collection. These photos were taken by my friend Greg Higgins during the show–be sure to visit his website to see more of his great work throughout the week.
The girls walked to Len’s Steal My Sunshine and Your Woman by White Town. So maybe cue those up before you scroll through the pictures. After the final parade, I sang a few bars at the end of the runway.
The inspiration for this collection was Kay Thompson’s character Eloise as a teenager. Stealing lipstick and eyeliner testers from the counters at Saks. Her expensive dresses and skirts rumpled on the floor. Slamming her door at the Plaza Hotel and lying to Nanny about spending the night with a friend. You know she’s going to Harvard, but what would she wear with her bad, ungrateful attitude?

These photos are from Greg Higgins. You can also visit the Omaha Fashion Week gallery from Muller, Lomneth, and Conces to see more photos from the week. There is so much talent in Omaha–the people power required to put on one successful show is gigantic, and OFW brings it all together into one well-produced week all tied up with a bow. It was a pleasure to showcase my work in their show for the last three years.
As more pictures come in I will be sure to share them!

when you can’t find a cute favor for your wedding…
Posted on Mar, 30. 2012 Category inspiration Vendor Spotlight Tags
Once I made the first big decision to get married, that’s when the thousands of little decisions began to pop up as we started planning our wedding. You’ve been there (or maybe you are now). Destination or local? Tons of guests, or a more intimate ceremony? Carnival or barn? Pizza or taco buffet? Okay, maybe not those last few necessarily…but one decision we all make, and often feel strongly about, regards the question of favors!
I’ve been to several weddings where I was happy to take home a sweet keepsake from the couple’s big day. Whether you know exactly what you want to share with your guests, or you need some ideas, the American Bridal website is full of inspiration for delightful and memorable wedding favors to share with your guests on your big day. Here are some of my favorites:

1: I love the idea of using American Bridal’s wine label stickers to add a personalized touch to each table. You’re gonna have the wine, so you might as well make it pretty! 2. I went to a fabulous barbecue wedding at a local park last year and each guest went home with a cute little matchbook like these. They’re a great value for your money, and I’m still using my match favors for the candles in my office! I love remembering that celebration every time I go to light a candle. 3. Keeping with that match theme, I love this matchstick key ring pen. I would love having a cute, hidden ballpoint pen on my keychain, and it’s pretty badass-looking too.
Often overlooked, a cute placecard holder is a really clever and practical option when you’re looking for a beautiful wedding favor that your guests will continue to enjoy. Three of my favorites from American Bridal include these Silver Love Birds, the Birdcage Tea Light/Placeholders (love that you can stick a candle in there!), and the adorable Elephant Card Holders. You know the trunk up means good luck!
7. Sometimes you already have a great favor–some candy, a little tea light, lottery tickets, bottle poppers, whatever–and you just need a cute way to package it. For that, I love these small silver picnic baskets. You can fill them up with anything. 8. One trend that I’ve noticed in eco-friendly weddings are plantable paper products–an invitation, save-the-date, or favor that you can take home and plant in your garden. Seeds within the card will germinate and wildflowers will spring up in your yard. This cherry blossom place card has wildflower seeds embedded in it. 9. Candles are an ever-practical favor, and these small travel tins from American Bridal are well-priced. I also like how neutral the top is, so if you put it on your desk or coffee table it doesn’t scream “I was just at a wedding!!”
American Bridal also stocks supplies for your ceremony and reception, jewelry and accessories, and stationery supplies, so you can lose hours browsing all of their well-priced offerings.
Are you using favors in your wedding? What favors have you received at past weddings that you loved?

day-of-the-week bow ties in a box

Last Thursday, my friend Sarah (maybe better known by her online persona Fash Flood) and I took a quick day trip to Denver to meet our friend Anna and watch the Project Runway All-Stars finale with contestant Mondo Guerra.

I first met Mondo last September when he came to Omaha for our Fashion Week event, about a week after he wrapped filming on All-Stars. I hosted him here and we did a very successful fundraiser for the Nebraska Aids Project. He also spoke to local designers on a panel of industry experts, so that was cool. We became friends and he invited me to Denver to watch the Project Runway finale. Fast forward to last week, and that’s just what we did.

I traveled with my friend Sarah, a stylist and fashion expert, and we were hosted in Denver by Anna Newell Jones of And Then She Saved, a fantastic lifestyle blog about getting out of debt. Our suitcase looked like a circus–everything we brought had a polka dot or a stripe or a bow, and all in bright colors. You know the “put a bird on it” bit from Portlandia? Sarah and I always say “PUT A BOW ON IT!”

So we brought a box of bows to Mondo to congratulate him on the show. Bow ties. The box was made in a jiffy by my friend Peter Cales, and we designed a sweet little insert card and wrapped it all up with yarn.

prep for omaha fashion week F/W 2012
Posted on Mar, 27. 2012 Category dresses events Tags Tags: fashionomaha fashion weekrebecca forsyth
Last Friday I debuted my last apparel collection at Omaha Fashion Week. It was a little emotional because I was so proud of it, but mostly because I am touched to have such an amazing team working with me. Here are some photos I took at Bungalow/8, who provided me with hair and makeup styling. My trusty hairdresser (and living doll) Rebecca Forsyth led the styling team and made my inspiration come to life on each of my five models.

As soon as I get final edits back from photographers I’ll share the photos from the runway–I can’t wait to see them as I was backstage the whole time. The wait for pictures to come in is one of the most exciting parts.
